Health Care For America – Obama Versus McCain

Understanding the future of your healthcare is important. The cost of health care is expected to double in 9 short years. With spending estimated to grow to more than $4,300,000,000,000 for Americans, the campaigning presidential candidates have devised strategies to combat the growing problems of the health care industry.

Each candidate has outlined a plan to reform the health care giant, which can be downloaded at their respective web sites.

Barack Obama. His plan is to guarantee coverage to every American, regardless of illness and pre-existing conditions.  He pledges to make a National Health Insurance Exchange available as a watchdog service regulating the rules and standards of private insurance plans. His plan also calls for an employer contribution to the new national plan, a support plan for small businesses that provide adequate health care for their employees, mandatory coverage for children, and an expansion of the eligibility for Medicaid and SCHIP. Obama also plans to spend ten billion dollars to move towards electronic health information systems, an idea that could save America over seventy billion dollars annually.

John McCain. McCain plans to provide protection to every citizen. McCain plans to install a refundable tax credit of $2500 for individuals and $5000 for families. He plans to expand the benefits of HSAs (Health Savings Accounts). McCain will lower drug prices by increasing competition in the drug markets, and a faster introduction of generic products. McCain supported The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act 12 years ago, providing coverage for those normally excluded due to pre-existing conditions.

Both candidates plan to incorporate more portability, prevention programs, and disease coordination and management programs to help you get the coverage you need at an affordable price. Be encouraged to further examine the details of their strategies, as I am sure at some point they will undoubtedly affect you or a loved one. Assess your needs and decide which candidate can meet them best.
